A week of time trials
Everything I did this week felt intense and fast. It started with the time trial up Bear followed by special 49 minute challenge for Paul’s 49th birthday at ATC, where I worked so hard with him that I cramped a bit from losing so much sweat and almost puked at one point (that is all a good thing). The next day I rushed up Green from Settler’s Park. And the next day I rushed up Shadow Canyon to South Boulder Peak with the Boulder Trail Runners, who kicked my ass on the way down.
Yesterday was another testing session at ATC with Connie where she tested me and a professional skier before we start our next training blocks. Don, the skier is headed to Chile to train there for skiing. I plan to run high in the mountains throughout August to train for Imogene. She will test us again after this out in the wild training and then put us through some focused winter ATC training and test us again. This will give Connie some comparison of ATC-in-the-gym training versus sport specific training. I am not a professional athlete like Don so I was just there as a reference point from another athlete in another sport. Here were the tests and my results from yesterday:
Broadjump: 7 ft and some inches.
1 Rep Max Power Clean - 175lbs (I felt weak here)
1 Rep Max Front Squat - 220lbs (I felt weak here as well)
Max # of rounds in 15 minutes of Full Leg Blasters. 20 air squats, 20 lunges, 20 jumping lunges, 10 squat jumps, 30 secs rest. I did 9 rounds with a real sprint at the end to finish that left me with sore glutes today.
Max # of reps in 10 minutes of 70lb sandbag getups - I did 72.
I have serious soreness in my glutes today because of the intensity of the jumping lunges, squats, etc.. so taking the day off after 4 days of well above average intensity (although moderate volume).
