Boise Y-Striders Saturday Morning Long Run

I am in Boise helping out with my Mom who is sick and I had to miss the Collegiate Peaks 25 mile run I did last year that I had signed up for.  I didn’t want to miss out on a chance for a run in the mountains especially knowing that my friends are either doing the Ironman at St. George or running Collegiate Peaks so I contacted the Boise Y-Striders to run with them.

I escaped out of the God-awful suberbs where my parents live, and made it to the YMCA downtown Boise where we took off to see the famed good running trails out of Boise.  When the other runners found out that I was a visitor, and a visitor from Boulder, they promised to take me on a good long run.  All of the guys on this run looked really fit and had great rapport with each other,  a very cohesive running group.

We reached a juncture where I left off the majority of the runners and fell in with 3 ultra runners, one of whom had finished in 24 hours at Leadville last year.  All 3 were were really cool guys but I can only remember one name, Richard.

They wanted to take me to a scenic favorite spot of the group called Lone Pine.  The final push to this tree was an “11 minute over 25% grade” deceptively hard push to the top.

This run really cheered me up and was a good training run too, a good 7 or 8 mile climb and then a fast smooth downhill for a total of 15 or 16 miles.  Thanks Y-Striders!
