Thursday- Kahtoola Microspikes
I have been in Crested Butte all week doing snowshoe runs. Snowshoe runs are great and I had some good solid nordic ski route runs in CB. Today however I am in Salida, staying at one of my favorite places, the friendly well designed Simple Lodge hostel (http://simplelodge.com/). When I checked in today I asked the owner Jon how to access the trails on the other side of the Arkansas river a...
Monday-Steady and relaxed
I ran 7 miles in 1hr nice and relaxed on a windy day around the CU cross country trails. Lots going on this Monday morning as I am heading out towards Crested Butte tonight with a friend so happy to get my normal run in.
Sunday - Chasing Renee
Today Renee offered to ride her bike along side my run and I gladly accepted. So Renee is 10 and she is a great athlete as a gymnast but doesn’t ride a lot and so it turned out that as a whole she had trouble keeping up with me, especially on uphills. On flats and downhills however it was an excellent partnership we had going, giggling, running along chasing each other. Every time we...
Friday - Marshall Mesa trail run
I ran 7.8 miles on the pretty muddy and icy Marshall Mesa trail today. I used to run this thing all the time but haven’t in a couple of months. My fitness has really fallen off as I haven’t run 6 days in a row in several weeks. I could tell on this run because the climbs were much tougher than they felt last fall. This was my 6th day of running though and my goal now is just to...
Thursday fairview track tempo
I ran up to fairview and then did 4 miles at tempo, all barely below 7 min mile. I guess the race last night took more out of me than I thought. Total of 6.6 miles, 50 minutes.

Wed night - Snowshoe race
Tonight I ran in a snowshoe race in the first of the Nighthawk Ski and Snowshoe series at the Eldora ski resort. This series has been going on for a while I think but this was my first time to check out it out. There are 2 main parts to the evening: skiers and snowshoers and they run different courses and start at the same time, 6pm. This means you wear a headlamp and you are potentially in...
Tuesday - A few hill repeats
Today my legs were pretty tired from a big ATC workout last night. Last night we did 10 rounds of the barbell complex minus pushups, around at the start of every 2 minutes. The barbell complex is 6 deadlifts, 6 rows, 6 cleans, 6 front squats, 6 push presses, 6 regular squats done consecutively usually at something like 2/3 or more body weight. However last night we did them at 1/2 body weight...
Monday-6.6 miles easy
I ran 6.6 miles at a 9 minute pace, super slow, super easy. My goal today was to get into the habit of running 1 hour after my morning status at 11am. I have figured this will be a good time for me to start running. In the morning I like to get a lot of my Adobe work done before my 11am status. After this call, I can run, shower and eat and get ready for the afternoon of working on other...
Sun-Snowshoe at Eldora
This morning, Kate, Naz and I went up to Eldora for a snowshoe. Naz and I missed our race yesterday so we wanted to get some snowshoe running in this weekend anyway. We wanted some steep windy stuff that we knew we would find at Eldora. Kate wanted to come along to get some refreshing mountain time and she rented snow skis.
When you run uphill in snowshoes near a ski resort you get some looks...
Sat-Chief Hosa-5.8miles
Today I was scheduled to run in the Colorado State Snowshoe Championships with Pedal Power. This morning didn’t go well. I got up late, found out that my friend Naz who I was going to the race thought the race was tomorrow and it’s my fault and then drove to I-70 to find out that I couldn’t make it in time because of ski traffic. So I turned around, ran Chief Hosa in a spirit...
Race Report - Hardwater Snowshoe Race
Today I ran in the Hardwater Snowshoe race (I say today, I am writing this backdated a few days later). This was the first time this race had been put on and it didn’t draw a huge crowd. The race was long, I ran the 11 mile option (it turned out to be 11.6) with about 10 or 11 other folks and another 10 or so ran the 30K. The course was an out and back along the Sourdough trail about 7...
New Year's Afternoon - 8 miles
I woke up New Year’s and ran up Smuggler’s Road in Aspen, which is a steep climbing road out of Aspen. Wait a second, I didn’t wake up New Year’s and start running. It took me a long time to get going, like about 1pm. But when I did I had a lot of great Aspen company, as there were a lot of people out walking. Of course they all looked very wealthy, interesting, white,...
